Helicopter description

The Bell 407 is a light multipurpose helicopter developed by the American company Bell Helicopter, based on the Bell 206L-4 LongRanger.

The prototype made its first flight on April 21, 1994. The first flight of the pre-production helicopter took place on June 29, 1995. In 1996, the helicopter was certified by the FAA and TCCA. Until 1999, more than 300 helicopters were built, and on June 15, 2010, the 1000th helicopter was delivered.

It uses a conventional main rotor and tail rotor layout. Compared with the Bell 206, the 407's fuselage is 18 centimetres wider, increasing cabin space, and the window area is 35% larger. It is powered by a Rolls-Royce/Allison 250-C47 turboshaft engine rated at 813 hp (606 kW) for takeoff and 700 hp (522 kW) maximum continuous power. The engine has a single-channel FADEC electronic control system.
