Helicopter description

The Eurocopter AS355 is an upgraded version of the AS350. Its predecessor's design was considered highly successful, with one significant limitation: it had only one engine.

Many AS350 customers pointed out that failure of its single engine in flight would require an emergency landing, potentially with serious consequences. In response to customer demand, a twin-engine development of the AS350 was created.

The helicopter's powerplant consists of two gas-turbine engines installed side by side above the fuselage, behind the main rotor shaft. To improve reliability, the engines are separated by a firewall and have independent fuel and lubrication systems.

The additional power improved the helicopter's operating performance.
