Helicopter description

The AgustaWestland AW139 is a new-generation medium twin-engine helicopter. It uses a conventional single-main-rotor layout with a tail rotor and retractable landing gear.

Originally called the Agusta-Bell, the helicopter was developed jointly by the two companies. After Bell left the project and sold its stake to Westland, it was renamed the AW139. The Italian company Agusta developed the helicopter using the rotor system, engines and transmission of its A129 helicopter. Its first flight took place in February 2001.

The AW139 has fewer parts and assemblies than the manufacturer's earlier helicopters. Integrated avionics and easy access to its systems simplify maintenance. Retractable landing gear and a modern five-bladed rotor provide smooth, fast flight.
