Helicopter description

The Agusta AW109 is a light Italian multirole helicopter. It has a conventional single-main-rotor layout with a tail rotor. Two Pratt & Whitney gas-turbine engines with FADEC electronic controls provide relatively low fuel consumption.

The AW109 Power and Grand models offer numerous cabin layouts and a wide range of optional equipment. They can serve as corporate or VIP transport, air ambulances, or transport for offshore platform personnel. Their gas-turbine engines are complemented by a strong, cocoon-like airframe, a crash-resistant fuel system and energy-absorbing seats for pilots and passengers.

The main and tail rotors are made of composite materials. Their optimised geometry improves aerodynamic stability and reduces noise below the limits required by ICAO standards. Fewer rapidly wearing components and longer overhaul intervals significantly reduce scheduled maintenance costs.
